Nearing the end of February! The trip to the High was FABULOUS!! First we brunched at the Colony Square in Midtown while we waited to be admitted to the High. The kids toured not only the special exhibit but also the permanent exhibits. It was nice to see so many intently studying some of the works of art. We were also surprised to note what some people classified as "art" (ex. Marchamp's snow shovel).
Last week we concentrated on speaking and reading comprehension.
Monday we began Chapter 5 with vocabulary and a reading. Also yesterday, I announced weekly debates. Each Friday, beginning March 2, we will have at least 1 - 3 debates. Debaters and topics will be picked at random every Monday. Students presenting will receive a test grade based on the effectiveness of the defense of their position. Students in the audience will receive a quiz grade based on the quality of their notes and questions they have for the debaters. Our first debate will be between Matt Karcher and Ashley Wertz.
Today we went over grammar - the immediate future and the future tenses. Quizlet tomorrow over nature and animal vocab.
Coming up next month is the Immersion Camp. After so many expressing an interest in going, only a few have turned in their applications. I must have everything by this Friday. This is a fabulous opportunity; don't miss it!
