Wonders of Plastics Essay Contest

Open to all high school students, this essay contest has winners in three categories,  and must be sponsored by a teacher.  Essay will be between 500 and 100 words.  Forms are available in the Future Shop.  The deadline for submission is Dec. 19, 2008. 

Toyota Community Scholars

Walton can nominate one student with the following characteristics for this scholarship: outstanding academic record; effective leader; outstanding community service both in and out of the school setting. 

Please let Mrs. Carlson in Guidance know by Nov. 21, 2008 if you are interested.  No essay required, but a list of community service, leadership positions and honors and awards are to be provided.

This is a scholarship for academically talented, highly motivated African American Students who are planning on graduating in 2009 and plan to pursue an undergraduate degree full-time.  Students must be U.S. citizens or hold permanent resident visa cards.  The program honors the late Ronald H. Brown, Secretary of Commerce during the clinton administration. 

Deadline: Nov. 1 postmarked for forwarding by the Ron Brown Scholars to other scholarship providers and Jan. 9th postmarked for Ron Brown Scholarship only.

Justice Served High School Oratorical Contest

This is a an original oratorical contest from 5-8 minutes with four prizes of $1000-$5000.  Contestants must be under 21 and be a junior or senior in High School.  The contest is on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008 at Atlanta's John Marshall Law School.  The Oration rules are listed on the website:  www.JusticeServedGeorgia.org

Deadline for registration is October 31, 2008. 

The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) has an essay contest for seniors.  An essay is required on freedom of speech on college campuses. 

Deadline is Nov. 20, 2008. First place is a $5000 college scholarship and second place is $2500.00

BigSun Scholarship

The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits. We are offering an annual scholarship to a deserving student. All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are participating in.

Deadline  -  June 27, 2009      Amount of Award  -  $500.00

The successful applicant will be a high school senior or be attending a post secondary institute and currently involved in some sport at that institution.

McKelvey Foundation Scholarship
