UGA Honors Research Program

The Honors Program at UGA announces the on-line application for the Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities (CURO) Apprentice Program is now available.  Apprentices receive $1000 per semester for 4 semesters maximum and are funded for a summer research experience.  Applicants must have outstanding academic achievement, demonstrated work ethic, stated interest in research and a strong commitment to continuing their academic success at UGA.  Applications are due by Feb. 1, 2009.  Please see Mrs. Lenenski in the Future Shop for more info. 

Scholarship Experts

All students who are legal US residents may apply.  5 students will be selected as $1000 scholarship winners.   Winners chosen based on quality of written responses to:  "In 250 words or less, submit a 'Top Ten List' of things you want to accomplish in your lifetime."  Go to www.scholarshipexperts.com/apply.htx  Deadline is Dec. 31, 2008.

College Zapps $5000 scholarship. Open to all 11th and 12th grade US students.  This scholarship requires an essay of 250 words or less about college essays.  Go to www.scholarshipexperts.com/showApp.htx?appId=10460  Deadline is Dec. 29, 2008

American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship

This oratorical contest is sponsored by the American Legion and begins at the local American Legion Post.  The winner progresses to the District, Area and State contests.  Cash prizes at the state level can total as much as $2500.00  Contestants must deliver an 8-10 minute prepared oration using some aspect of the Constitution of the United States.    An extemporaneous 3-5 minute oration is given by each contestant based on 1 of 4 Amendments, selected at the time of the contest.  Interested parties should contact David Burdette, Distric Five Contest Chairman ofr info regardings local Post contests and locations.  He may be reached at (770) 428-0400 or dburdette488@bellsouth.net. 

Hispanic Scholarship Fund

For High School Seniors that are Hispanic and are US citizens, must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and apply for federal financial aid through the FAFSA.  Apply online at www.hsf.net. 

National Co-Op Scholarship

Two hundred merit scholarships of $6000.00 each awarded to students who plan to participate in college co-op education at any of these schools:  Drexel Univ., Johnson and Wales, Kettering, CW Post, Northeastern, Pace, Rochester Inst. of Technology, Unversity of Cincinnati, University of Toledo and Wentworth Institute of Technology.  Must have at least a 3.5 GPA (cumulative), complete a 500 word essay, and be accepted at one of the schools listed above.

Margie Hatfield Scholarship

Margie Hatfield Scholarship The ECCC PTA Margie Hatfield Scholarship Fund Every year the Eastern Cobb County council PTA offers graduating high school seniors the Margie Hatfield Scholarship in honor of Mrs. Hatfield's years of service to the youth of our council PTA. This scholarship is for any graduating high school senior enrolling in a full time course of study at any institute of higher learning. Six (6) $1,000 Scholarships will be awarded; one student from each of the ECCC PTA high schools will be chosen. A great emphasis will be placed on the service records and citizenship of the winning applicants . Robert Byrd Scholarship

ROBERT BYRD SCHOLARSHIP

Amount:  $1,500 renewable for up to three additional years

* One senior can be nominated from Walton

REQUIREMENTS:

1.  Must already be accepted and will be attending a college in Georgia

2.  Be a graduate of a public or private secondary school

3.  Be a legal resident of Georgia

4.  Be a citizen of the US, a national, or a permanent resident who meets the residency requirement and provides documentation from the Immigration Naturalization Service.

5.  Have applied or been accepted for enrollment at an institution of higher learning

6.  Have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement

7.  Show promise of continued academic achievement

8.  Complete an Essay.
