Morehead Cain Scholarship at UNC-Chapel Hill

Walton is able to recommend one nominee for this prestigious scholarship.  In order to be nominated you must meet the following criterion:

1. You must be a serious applicant; meaning that if you are nominated and receive this scholarship, you WILL attend UNC- Chapel Hill.
2. Have exceptional statistics in the following FOUR areas:  leadership, scholarship, moral force of character and physical vigor.
3. High level of coursework.
4. Top 10% of the class-minimum

 The deadline for this submission is October 3^rd .  If you are interested in this scholarship, please see Mrs. Lenenski by Friday, September 16th.  If we have only one interested person, we will submit that name if they meet the criterion.  For more students, we must decide by a committee process (none of the counselors), based mainly on academic excellence. 

Danforth Scholarship at Washington University

Walton can nominate qualified students for the prestigious Danforth Scholars Program at Washington University in St. Louis for 2011.  The criterion is as follows:

 

1. You must be a SERIOUS applicant for Wash. U.
2. You must have strong academics, including rigor of curriculum.
3. You must have made an exceptional contribution to the community with service and leadership.
4. You must have proven leadership and personal integrity that is above reproach.
5. You must have a desire to lead your community in service for the future.
6. No essay is required at this point.

 

A nomination from a faculty member or leader in the community letter must be submitted by Friday, September 30^th.   At the end of the day, no more names will be considered.  Please see Mrs. Lenenski in Guidance if you are interested in being considered for this scholarship. 

Bryan Scholarship at Davidson

This is a scholarship for student athletes.  Two $30,000 awards are available to one woman and one man entering Davidson in Fall 2012.  Candidates are chosen on the basis of:

• academic and personal excellence
• strong promise of significant impact in their classes and in campus life
• potential for significant success in Davidson's Div. I athletic program

Walton can nominate up to three candidates for the Bryan Scholarship.  Please see Mrs. Lenenski in the College Corner if you are interested in being nominated by September 16, 2011. 

College Peas Scholarship

Standout Student College ScholarshipThere is more to getting into college than good grades and test scores!

College Peas Student Standout College Scholarship is for the student who has something special that makes them different from their peers. We recommend engaging in a special kind of activity – a Non-Teenager Activity or NTA. An NTA is, quite simply, any activity that other teenagers don’t typically do. By choosing an NTA you will differentiate yourself in a way that will have a very positive impact on your chances of getting into college. We are always looking for good examples of NTA’s and if you have one, you have a shot at this scholarship.

To qualify for the College Peas Standout Student Scholarship you must be a current high school student and:

• Be a current high school student that Intends to enroll full-time at a four-year college.
• Have a minimum GPA of 2.0/4.0.
• Submit a short essay describing a special skill, talent or interest that helps you standout from your peers. The essay should be no longer than 100 words.

Scholarship amount: $500 + a free college admissions consultation with Mike Moyer

Plus, if your school posts a link to the College Peas Scholarship on their site you will receive an additional $100 if you win.
