Horation Alger Scholarship

If integrity, determination and courage describe you- then you have what it takes to be a Horation Alger Scholar.  This scholarship rewards students who possess the character to succeed in life and helps them overcome the financial barriers of pursing higher education

For high school seniors planning to attend college in Fall 2012.  Must have critical financial need, involvement in co-curricular and community activities, minimum 2.0 GPA and be a US citizen.

FRA Essay Contest

The FRA Patriotic Essay  contest is open to anyone in grades 7-12.  The Grand Prize is a $10,000 savings bond.  Eighteen other awards are also available.  Please go to www.fra.org/essay for more information. 

A 350 word essay on "What Freedom of Speech Means to Me" is required.

League of Champions

Sponsored by Univision 34, this $1000.00 scholarship is open to seniors that are bilingual (Spanish/English), are of Hispanic descent, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above, and are NOT employed by or family of employees of  Univision or Plaza Fiesta.  Timline for submission is from Oct., 2011 to February  2012.  Please see Mrs. Lenenski in The College Corner for an application and rules.

Princeton Prize in Race Relations

Cash awards: up to $1000

Deadline: 1/31/2012.

Offering this program for students in grades 9-12. To recognize the outstanding work students have done in the area of race relations.

BIG SUN Scholarship

The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits. We are offering an annual scholarship to a deserving student. All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are participating in.

Deadline        -  June 22, 2012     

Amount of Award  -        $500.00

The successful applicant will be a high school senior or be attending a post secondary institute and currently involved in some sport at that institution or in the community..

Jefferson Scholarship at UVA

The  University of  Virginia allows for Walton High to nominate 1 candidate for the Jefferson Scholarship. 

The process is as follows: 

1. You MUST be a serious applicant to UVA.
2. You can pick up a packet in Guidance that includes a fact sheet of the Jefferson Scholarships.  You must be a candidate who exemplifies the Jeffersonian ideals of leadership, scholarship, and citizenship.  Successful candidates will have uncommon academic abilities, exceptional leadership talents and an understanding of the broader community around them. 
3. You must write a 500 word leadership essay.  One letter of recommendation is also required.  Only 1 applicant will be nominated from Walton.  If there is more than one, the applicants will be reviewed by a committee and only one will be chosen.  There are no counselors on the committee. 

Please have all materials in to Mrs. Carlson in guidance by Oct. 25^th, 2011 if you are interested. 

As a condition of nomination, a candidate must agree not to make application to any other college or university under a binding early decision plan. 

OCA Scholarship

OCA-Georgia is proud to announce their 2011 scholarship program.  We are seeking qualified graduating high school seniors for its 2011 OCA scholarship program.  Applicants will be evaluated on their scholastic and personal achievements.  Qualifications for the scholarship are as follows:

 -   All full-time graduating high school seniors in good academic standing (minimum GPA 2.75 on 4-point scale, or 3.44 on 5-point scale), of any ethnic or cultural background, who plans to attend higher education

- Applicants must be a United States citizen or a permanent resident of the US

 The 2011 OCA scholarship consists of the following categories:

 

• Academic Achievement: $400 each: male & female
• Athletic Achievement: $400 each: male & female
• Community / Cultural Achievement: $400 each: male & female
• Overall: $1,000 one winner

 OCA is a national non-profit organization that is dedicated to advancing the social, political, and economic well-being of Asian Pacific Americans in the United States.  OCA-Georgia is one of 50 local chapters across the US.

Belk Scholarship at Davidson College

Belk Scholars is a program at Davidson College that recognizes and rewards students of demonstrated outstanding intellectual and personal achievement and significant leadership ability.  Up to eight Belk Scholars will be chosen for the Class of 2016 at Davidson, each receiving a renewable scholarship equivalent to the college's comprehensive fees.  In addition, each scholar receives two summer stipends to pursue international study and other enrichment opportunities. 

Walton can nominate one student who must submit a completed application to Davidson by December 1, 2011.  Finalists will be invited to campus in March 2012, and the final winners will be announced by April 8, 2012.

BBB Student of Integrity

Announcing BBB’s Student of Integrity Scholarship program for 2012. All information regarding the scholarships will be on our website, www.atlanta.bbb.org, by November 15^th.   

Details of the 2012 Student of Integrity Scholarships:

 

1. BBB will give six $1,000 scholarships based on: leadership, community service, academic achievement, and an essay.
2. There is no limit to the number of students who may enter from any one school.
3. The student must be a senior, graduating in 2012, and attending an accredited school in our BBB’s service area
4. Our winners will be called.  All others will be sent an email expressing our thanks for entering.  This will be done after the judging process.
5. At this time, entries will be accepted beginning December 1, 2011 and the deadline will be January 31, 2012.  Please note that these dates are subject to change and you should review all information when it is posted on our website November 15^th.
