The University of Virginia allows for Walton High to nominate 1 candidate for the Jefferson Scholarship.
The process is as follows:
- You MUST be a serious applicant to UVA.
- You can pick up a packet in Guidance that includes a fact sheet of the Jefferson Scholarships. You must be a candidate who exemplifies the Jeffersonian ideals of leadership, scholarship, and citizenship. Successful candidates will have uncommon academic abilities, exceptional leadership talents and an understanding of the broader community around them.
- You must write a 500 word leadership essay. One letter of recommendation is also required. Only 1 applicant will be nominated from Walton. If there is more than one, the applicants will be reviewed by a committee and only one will be chosen. There are no counselors on the committee.
Please have all materials in to Mrs. Carlson in guidance by Oct. 25th, 2011 if you are interested.
As a condition of nomination, a candidate must agree not to make application to any other college or university under a binding early decision plan.
