Walton Weekly Update for Sept. 7-13

Here's What's Happening At Walton This Week..............

Monday, Sept. 8:  Habitat for Humanity Meeting, 3:30 PM. Please see attachment for more information

Wednesday, Sept 10:  WEB, Freshman are required to stay. Club Fair will be held during WEB.

WEB Concessions will be available in the commons from 12:45 PM - 2:30 PM. Pizza (pepperoni or cheese) is available by the slice for $1.00. In addition candy, muffins and chips are available for .75 each. These concessions are available each WEB.

Friday, Sept. 12:  Home Football Game in Raider Valley, 7:30 Kickoff against the Campbell Spartans

Tickets will be available during all lunch periods in the Commons. Student tickets are $5 and Adult general admission tickets are $7. You can also purchase reserved seat tickets at this time for $10.

The Spirit Wear Shop will also be open during all lunch periods.

Also all week, you can purchase pizza from Domino's anytime between Sept. 6-14, and Domino's will donate 20% to the Aaron Cleveland Fund. Please see attachment for all details.

Volunteers are still desperately needed for the Hearing and Vision Screening at school on Oct. 2,3, and 23rd. We need volunteers who are willing to be trained for the actual screening, but we also need volunteers to just show up that day and manage the students. If you can volunteer for even a couple hours, please contact Julie Orologas at either orologas@bellsouth.net or 770.578.9118

Coming Up Soon:

Monday, September 15: 'Ignorance is No Defense' author J. Tom Morgan will speak in the theatre from 7-8:30 PM. Morgan, a former District Attorney and now a defense attorney will speak about Georgia Laws and how they affect teens. He will advise teens of their rights and point out punishments for breaking laws that might surprise teens and their parents. Parents are encouraged to bring their teens to this program

Tuesday, September 16:  Probe College Fair at Northpoint Mall.

Wednesday, August 27: Girl's Lacrosse meeting, 12:45 PM in Mrs. Ryan's room, C176, for all girls (new and returning) interested in playing this year.

Wednesday, August 27: Walton Open House, 7:00 PM (6:45 PM if your student has 0 hour)

Thursday, August 28: Walton Community Outreach Club, 3:30PM to 4:00 PM in the Media Center. The meeting is for all students interested in finding out more about this club which sends students out into the community to tutor, visit the elderly, feed the homeless and much more. Friday, August 29: Spirit Shop Open during all lunch periods.

Walton Weekly Update, August 10-16, 2008

It's finally here, the first day of school! Welcome Back!! This week at Walton..........

Monday, August 11: First Day of School. Report to homeroom first all this week.

Wednesday, August 13: Walton ice hockey tryouts will be held at the Marietta Ice Center at 6:30 AM before school. The tryout fee is $20 per player. For more information, go to www.waltonhockey.com

Monday, August. 18: PTSA General Meeting, 9:30 AM in B-Hall conference Room. All are invited to attend.

Wednesday, August 20: New Walton Robotics Team will hold an informational meeting at 6:00 PM in the Engineering/Tech room at Walton. All interested parents, students and potential mentors are encouraged to attend. For more information visit the website at www.USFIRST.org.

Wednesday, August 20: Freshman Math Night, 7:00 PM in the theater. Please note this is a different date than the one listed in the calendar.

Walton Weekly Update, August 3-9

Summer vacation is quickly coming to an end and things are cranking back up at Walton High School. This week at Walton.....

Thursday, August 7th: 8:15 AM Freshman Orientation. Freshman please report to your homeroom (class assignments will be posted at the school) and Parents please go to the gym

Thursday, August 7th: 11:00 AM Seniors pick up parking passes in the back of the commons. Pay your $20 Super Senior dues (checks made payable to Walton High School) and get your Super Senior Tee-shirts.

Thursday, August 7th: 11:00 AM Sophomore, Juniors and Seniors pick up your fall semester class schedule in your homerooms.

Friday, August 8th: 9:30 AM Newcomers Orientation in the Theatre. This orientation is for students and their parents that are new to Cobb County. Please note the time change.

Walton To Offer Princeton Review SAT PREP Class

The Walton Guidance Department has announced that The Princeton Review has agreed to offer their SAT Prep class here at Walton next fall at 1/2 price. This is an excellent opportunity for any student wishing to either improve their SAT score or who want to prepare for the test.

Walton To Offer Summer Enrichment Program for Summer Reading

Walton will once again offer the Summer Enrichment Program for all rising 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th graders.  The program will be held the week of June 2 only.  It will be divided into two sessions each day, Monday through Friday.  This year, we will be offering help in summer reading for English and Social Studies only. The week in June is designed to get the students started with their required summer readings. Students may attend one session of English and one session of Social Studies each day or only one session a day.  The morning and afternoon sessions for both subjects will be the same.  The morning session will begin at 8:30 a.m. and run until 11:00 a.m.  The second session will start at 12:00 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m.

Please email Roberta Manheim at Roberta.Manheim@cobbk12.org to register. Unless otherwise notified, students will be enrolled and should report to the Media Center by 8:30 on Monday, June 2 for their classroom assignments.


Students must bring the required summer reading books with them the first day in order to participate.

The English Department will hold additional sessions throughout the summer for enrichment purposes. This information is on the English Department Blog on the Walton website.

Well, it's the last week of school and things are quickly winding down. Here's what is going on at Walton High School this week:

Monday: 7 PM, Senior Evening of Inspiration at the Roswell Street Baptist Church in Marietta.

Tuesday: WEB

Tuesday: 11 AM mandatory graduation practice in the gym at Walton for all seniors.

Wednesday: Final Exams for 3rd,4th and 5th periods.

Wednesday: 11 AM mandatory graduation practice in the gym for all seniors.

Thursday: Final Exams for 1st and 2nd periods.

Thursday: 2:30 PM mandatory graduation practice for all seniors at Kennesaw State University.

Friday: Final Exams for 6th and 7th periods.

Friday: Last day of School and Graduation!

Rehearsals Scheduled for Senior Evening of Inspirationa and Graduation

Hello Seniors,

Please remember that you have rehearsals scheduled this week for Senior Evening of Inspiration and for graduation.

On Sunday, May 18th, rehearsal is will be held from 3-4 PM at the Roswell Street Baptist Church. The church is located at 774 Roswell Street in Marietta.

Senior Evening of Inspiration will take place Monday night at 7 PM at the Roswell Street Baptist Church. Seniors should arrive at the facility by 6 PM.

Graduation Practice is also scheduled for this week and attendance is mandatory in order to participate in the graduation ceremony.

Practices will take place Tuesday, May 20, at 11 AM in the Walton Gym; Wednesday, May 21, at 11 AM in the Walton gym; and Thursday, May 22 at 2:30 PM at Kennesaw State University.

The news everyone has been waiting for has finally been announced. Judy McNeill has been named as Walton's New Principal. Mrs. McNeill has been at Walton for 19 years. Congratulations Mrs. McNeill.

Here's what is happening this week at Walton:

Wednesday: Final Letter Jacket fitting from 7:30 AM - 8:00 AM outside the commons. Forms are available at the front office and payment is due at the time of the order. The jackets will arrive in mid August.

Friday: End of Year Sale in the Spirit Shop. The store will be open from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM.

Saturday: Walton Athletic Physicals Day from 9 AM - 11 AM. The cost is $30.00 Also available that day will be Echocardiograms (optional heart screens) for $30.00 Appointments for the echocardiograms are limited, so schedule by email to Lisa.Sager@cobbk12.org
