Open Positions on the PTSA Board

We hope everyone is having a good summer so far!
The PTSA has a few openings on our Board!
Please call PTSA Co- President’s:
Kathy VanderBroek  or Danielle Houret-Lam if any of the following appeal to you.  Training and help included!

The Board meets about once a month usually on the third Tuesday of the month at 9:30 am in the Media Center .  Although attendance is not mandatory, it is one of the best places to find out what is going on at Walton and to share ideas! Dr. Higgins usually begins the meeting with a summary of what is going on…it’s always one of our favorite parts of the meeting.

Community Outreach:  we already have two co-chairs but could add another who has time after school or on some weekends to help chaperone events that the Community Outreach students attend.   We would love someone who has a future interest in this committee (activities include MUST dinners, tutoring at Brumby and Power’s Ferry, visitors to local assisted care homes and other community service projects that students volunteer at.

Special Projects: organizes parent volunteers to help with the coat check for the WinterFest Dance and for Prom ticket distribution (during lunch the week of PROM) as well as set up and drive Walton’s car for Dr. Higgins and the Walton’s Teacher of the Year in the East Cobber Parade.

Historian:  someone to compile photographs and other memorabilia from the year’s PTSA activities.

Membership:  Involves setting up PTSA membership cards and coupons and distributing them at Meet and Greet Wed, Aug 8th, selling PTSA memberships to teachers and staff at PTSA hosted luncheon on Tues Aug 7, helping the treasurer enter and maintain the membership data base and selling and distributing membership cards after Orientation/Meet and Greet.

Driver’s Education:  Organizes a defensive driver course —there is a lot of parent interest in going to a new program that Lassiter High School uses called the Car Control Clinic (www. Carcontrol.com).  The program involves both parents and teens in the safe driving program.  The chairperson publicizes, sets up the location and handles the registration.  The company does the training J.

Special Services:  helps support parents of students involved in special Services at WHS by organizing speakers and /or coffees on areas of interest.  This is a PTA Priority committee and therefore there are lots of PTA resources available to help organize and guide the chairperson.

Red Ribbon Week:  Decorates school and plans simple activities to promote this special week of the Drug- Free Campaign acknowledged all over the U.S.   It is in mid October.

The following positions are currently open:
