Weekly Update: Jan 20-26, 2008

COMING UP AT WALTON THIS WEEK:

Mon 1/21: No School MLK Day!

Wed 1/23: “Unpredictable Teen Brain” Program 10-11:30 am at Peachford Hospital. Please see the attached Flyer.

Wed 1/23: 6 PM General PTSA Meeting in the Theater and at 7 PM OPEN HOUSE-begins- come go through your child’s schedule. Meet their teachers and wander the halls... (6:45—zero period)

We also have some Chinese Students Visiting from Beijing, China! Many Walton Families are hosting these students and their chaperones. The PTSA is helping provide food for a potluck dinner on Sunday 1/27 and a breakfast on Monday 1/28. Please contact our PTSA Co-VP Mike Streetman at: streetob@bellsouth.net if you would be able to bake an item for one of these events!

Today's Dance Marathon Postponed Due to Weather

Just in from the Walton Facilities Foundation:

The Dance Marathon that was scheduled for 1-5 pm today is canceled due to weather.

Information on Walton Tennis Team Tryouts

To all parents and students interested in the Walton Tennis Program:

Tryouts for the Walton Lady Raider Tennis Team will begin Tuesday, January 22nd at 3:30 PM and will continue the rest of that week.

If your daughter is interested in trying out, her physical form should be turned into Coach Roberta Manheim by Friday, January 18th.

Tryouts for the Boy’s Tennis Team will begin Monday, January 28th.

Margie Hatfield Scholarhip sponsored by the Eastern Cobb County Council of PTAs

Please see the following information and attached application for the Margie Hatfield Scholarship. One senior from Walton will be chosen. The application must be postmarked by February 1, 2008:

The Eastern Cobb County Council of PTAs created the Margie Hatfield Scholarship Fund in order to honor the dedication and years of service given by Mrs. Hatfield to the youth of our Council.

She is a Past President of our organization who served three consecutive terms.

It is with this service in mind that the Council PTA sponsors the scholarship program. This fund is to help deserving youth in their quest for higher knowledge.

A great emphasis will be placed on the service records and citizenship of the winning applicants, as this embodies the philosophy of the PTA.

The Margie Hatfield Scholarship Fund will award six (6) separate $1,000 scholarships; one student from each of the ECCC high schools will be chosen.

Dance Marathon is Sat, January 19th at Walton

Coming next Saturday, January 19th to Walton High School:

A Mini Dance Marathon for Walton and Kell High School Students

All students are encouraged to attend!

This is the largest and most exciting student-run philanthropic event in the southeast.

This Marathon raises awareness and funds for the Children's Miracle Network and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

Tickets are on sale next Wednesday- Friday during lunch at Walton for $10 or at the door for $15.

'08 Seniors Needed to help plan the "Senior Evening of Inspiration"

Attention ’08 Seniors!

The first planning meeting for the Senior Evening of Inspiration will take place in Ms. Manheim’s room, B-211 at 7:40am on Wednesday, January 23.

Come help select the theme, plan the program, choose speakers and music, have fun and taste some goodies!

Walton Band Garage Sale is Feb 23--Donations Needed

Please see the following announcement from the Walton Band:

The Walton Band is preparing for their annual Garage Sale to be held on Saturday, February 23rd.

Donations for the event are needed and appreciated!

Our storage facility is conveniently located behind our new East Cobb TARGET at 1501 Johnson Ferry Road in the Johnson Square Business next to the Sunrise Assisted Living Center and across the street from Kmart/Sears. Take the first left as you enter the business park and our storage site is the first building on the left.

The storage facility will be open for donations on the following days:

Saturday, January 12th from 9 am- 11am,

Saturday, January 25th from 9 am-noon, and

Sunday, January 26th from 2-5 pm.

All donations are tax-deductable. If your donation is too large to fit in your car, please call Ken Stamm at 770-565-2430 to arrange a pick-up.

We can not take mattresses, appliances or car seats. Computer donations must be capable of running Windows XP or higher.

Thank you in advance for your donations. Mark your calendar for the Sale!

Cobb Senior Bowl is Saturday, Jan 12, 3:00 at McEachern High School

Please see the following announcement from the Walton Athletic Office:

The inaugural Cobb Senior Bowl takes place this Saturday, January 12 at 3:00 at McEachern High School.

The following Raiders have been selected to play.

Tickets are only $5.00 each and will be on sale in the Walton Athletic Office Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 8-Noon. They will also be on sale for the first 10 minutes of each lunch period in the Commons on those days.

Come out and support your Raiders!
