Walton's Winning Spring Sport Season

Here is a recap of Walton's Winning Spring Sports Season from the Athletic Department:

Here's what is going on this Spring with Walton athletics. Lots of excitement in the classroom, the playing fields, courts, golf courses, tracks and gymnasiums. All of our sports are in the state playoffs right now, with the exception of baseball and the regular season ends Friday night.

Our Men's Golf Team, led by Mike Davidson, will take 6 golfers to Jekyll Island this weekend to compete in the state meet and have a great chance of a strong showing. Dr. Rick Myrick and our Lady Raiders missed this state tournament opportunity by just 1 stroke after a very successful season.

Our Lady Raiders tennis team under Roberta Manheim, won their 96th consecutive match Wednesday night and will take on their toughest competitor yet this Tuesday. Brookwood is 22-0, losing only 6 points all season. The match will be at Walton and the time will most likely be at 4:00. The men and John Evans just missed out of the state playoffs but will be returning next season with a very strong team.

In lacrosse, Mandy Ryan and her Lady Raiders are moving deep into the state playoffs. They face a tough Lassiter team Friday night at 5:00 in Raider Valley. The men's team and Joe Maselli improved greatly this year and fell just short this past Friday night in a game that would've sent them to the playoffs.

Tuesday night, Bucky Boozer and his men's soccer team won 2-1 on a penalty kick with just 18 seconds left on the clock to move into the next round! They travel to Warner Robins Friday night for a 6:00 match up. Our Lady Raiders had a tough first round draw against Brookwood and lost in the state playoffs. Bruce Wade led them to another wonderful season with an amazing season on the horizon for next year. In addition to his talented returners, the JV women's season was awesome. Sharon Loughran and Bill Bellus and their JV ladies were 13-0, scoring 71 goals and allowing only 4.

Amy Merlin and Kathleen Sneed could have their strongest team of gymnasts ever and we can't wait until Friday when they travel to Westminster for the state meet. We're also learning that some of their ladies will continue their gymnastics career next year at the college level.

In Track & Field, Tom Williams and Rob Nichols will showcase their talented athletes in Albany this weekend for the ladies, and next weekend in Jefferson for the men. The men came in 2nd in a very tough region and are sending 7 to state. We can't wait to hear the results.

Our State Champion baseball team, led by Shane Amos, has gone on a tear from Spring Break on. We have won 10 games and lost 2 in the last 12. They will travel to Pope tomorrow for a 5:55 game that will end the regular season. State playoffs begin on the 9th
